Need a last-minute gift for a host/ess with the mostest? Infused liqueurs are always a good choice. They’re as easy as pouring stuff into a bottle, and all you need is your alcohol of choice and a flavor you love. One of my favorite flavors is Earl Grey tea. The bergamot provides a floral and citrus boldness that (IMO) many teas lack. Earl Grey Bourbon makes a terrific Old Fashioned or Manhattan. It also looks beautiful packaged in a small glass bottle with a bow. It takes only a few days to infuse, so if you make it today, you’ll have plenty of time to gift it to those lucky loved ones.
Earl Grey Bourbon
This infused bourbon has all the boldness of Earl Grey tea, and it's perfect for a unique Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
- 1 750 ml bottle of bourbon
- 2-3 bags of Earl Grey tea or 1/4 cup of Earl Grey tea leaves
In a large jar, combine bourbon and tea.
Let sit in a dark, cool place (like a pantry or cabinet) for 2-3 days.
Shake every day.
Strain into a measuring cup with a lip and pour into sterilized jars or bottles.
For an added bonus, print out the following recipe and tie it to the neck of the bottle with a bow. You can even pair it with those delicious cocktail cherries from a few days ago, and your friends will love you forever.
Makes 2 drinks
3 ounces Earl Grey bourbon
3 dashes of bitters
2 sugar cubes
2 strips orange zest
2 small orange wedges
2 cocktail cherries
Ice, as needed
2 ounces bourbon
- Add the sugar cube, bitters, orange wedge and cherry to the bottom of an old-fashioned glass. Use a small spoon or a muddler to muddle the cube into the liquids so the sugar will begin to dissolve.
- Add ice to the glass and top with bourbon and club soda and stir well. Top with the strip of orange zest and cherry.
